Under a recent executive order, Governor Roy Cooper lifted all capacity limits, social distancing requirements and most mask mandates for the entire state of North Carolina.

Face coverings are still required for everyone in schools and child care facilities, in certain public health settings and on public transportation. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services also recommends that people who aren’t vaccinated and everyone in large crowds still wear a face covering.

If traveling, individuals are encouraged to check with local governments to determine whether any limitations are still in place (e.g., visitor centers), and to contact lodging establishments directly for their most up-to-date information. Please use DriveNC.gov for real-time information on rest areas, resources and traffic.

North Carolinians and out-of-state visitors are also encouraged to download SlowCOVIDNC, an exposure notification app that alerts users when they may have had an unknown community exposure. The app does not collect any personally identifiable information.

If exploring outside, please follow the Outdoor NC and Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics’ recommendations for slowing the spread of the virus so we can continue to enjoy nature responsibly.
